Vital Signs and Measures

All measures, including the measures within the Vital Signs, are equally weighted.

Panama is starting to build on the foundations for personalised healthcare.

Panamaโ€™s established rules facilitate transparency on health institution outcomes, and a national strategy for electronic health records (EHRs) helps to keep stakeholders like patients, advocacy groups, and medical professionals abreast of health data in the country. In Panama, there has been a significant implementation and uptake of telemedicine. However, the country shows room for improvement when it comes to equity. In addition, the country could benefit from improving the existence of legislation allowing patients to access healthcare data held in EHRs, reinforcing patientsโ€™ access to their personal health data, strengthening the medical workforce, and establishing quality cancer registries. These areas can help pave the way and build capacity for personalised healthcare in Panama. Other focus areas for development towards personalised healthcare should involve addressing several of the systemic foundations for healthcare advancement, including social mobility, funding for research and development, and increasing willingness to engage in public-private partnerships.
