Personalised Health Index in Latin America

The Personalised Health Index is made up of 31 different measures split across four categories called Vital Signs, based on a broader set of 17 building blocks, or key policies, which provide a model of the optimal ecosystem for data-driven healthcare.

What is the index?

The Personalised Health Index is a first-of-its-kind, data-driven policy tool measuring each country's progress towards the personalised, digitalised future of healthcare. It brings together renowned experts, data, and insights to deliver a unique overview of the current status of 10 health systems in Latin America. The tool intends to create benchmarks and actionable insights to drive health system planning and accelerate progress towards sustainable healthcare systems that deliver the best care for all patients in the region.

When we talk about data-based healthcare we also have to talk about public policy based on data. Using real world evidence allows us to make better decisions in a complex world and improve health and access to care.

What is the goal of FPH in LATAM?

The FutureProofing Healthcare initiative works with independent experts from across the world to share data, evidence, and insights. The community aims to accelerate progress towards healthcare of the future by tracking and encouraging the evolution of health systems, and supports decisions driven by evidence, and an understanding of what works for real patients, professionals and people. The initiative draws on the lessons of the past and looks at the needs of the future.

What is Personalised Healthcare?

Personalised healthcare is the future of care. It can be understood as data-driven healthcare that harnesses medical knowledge and the power of information supplied by the collection and analysis of aggregated health data to identify problems faster and tailor treatments to individual patients, ultimately improving patient outcomes and lives.

Personalised Healthcare Measures

The index shares an overview of each country's performance across different vital signs, including Health Services, Health Products, Policy Context, and Personalised Technologies. As pictured, each country receives a score for each vital sign which contributes to their overall score.

How is the index made?

To track and measure progress towards more sustainable, personalised and digital health systems the index aggregates accredited, current third-party data to gather comprehensive insights.

While the overall dataset is incredibly large, a rigorous process was undertaken to decide which measures would be part of the index, which included data selection, Delphi interviews to complement data sources, and a careful aggregation and normalisation process.

Use the Index

Explore index findings and regional insights in key areas such as electronic health records, data infrastructure, and telemedicine penetration.

The tool supports data-driven decision-making and best practice sharing across Latin America.

Summary of launch event

When we launched the Latin American Personalised Health Index, we initiated a conversation about the road that lies ahead for Latam to reimagine sustainable, resilient and personalised health systems, even in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. We brought together stakeholders from different backgrounds (see list above) to discuss strategies on how to continue leveraging data to develop more sustainable health systems in Latam for the future.
